Biography of Conchita Wurst
Austrian singer Conchita Wurst Overnight became a European star as well as an outspoken leader among the LGBT community.
She appeared on stage in Denmark Eurovision song contest to sing her song, emotional ballad ” Rise like a Fenix “. But she shocked the whole world when she came out. She had long black hair, a tight dress, and a dark beard. 16 years after Israel won with very similar candidate Dana, Austria is sending a performer that seems like a new version of Dana International with one significant difference: she has a really long beard.
Early life
Conchita, who was born as Tom Neuwirth 1988 in Gmunden, Austria 1988 studied in the Graz School of Fashion and currently resides in Vienna.
The difficult period Wurst referred to took place when she was growing up in a small village. It was not easy for her but her family supported her and that gave her more courage.
Conchita’s biography, like herself, includes both real and fabricated details: she was born in the Columbian mountains and participated in an Austrian talent reality show called “Die große Chance” (The Great Opportunity.)
Carrier
Conchita has released one album “Conchita”. Other singles are: You are unstoppable, Rise like a phoenix, That’s what I am.
The Guardian recently reported that St Petersburg legislator Vitaly Milonov – the man behind Russian’ infamous law against homosexual propaganda – ‘has written a letter to Russia’s Eurovision selection committee asking it not to send Russian musicians to the competition.’
Milonov called the event a wide gay Sodom show. He called people to boycott this event.
Because of the discrimination during her time as a teenager she decided to live his life like that and to show it to the word in the name of support for all similar people. She is a symbol of the fact that you just can live a wonderful life when you do what makes you happy.
Similar to Dana International in Israel Conchita has received mixed reactions in her country. According to her many people heard about her but not many are her fans. But people wonder is she man or a woman? She says that she is a woman who just has a bit of facial hair, that’s all. The beard is because she wants to show everyone that happiness or success is not about your look.
Her dream of performing in the Eurovision competition dates back to when she would watch it as a young boy with her mother.
Personal life
Tom is homosexual and after trying to perform as himself but never quite feeling comfortable doing it he came up with the drag persona Conchita Wurst. When Tom is performing as Conchita, female pronouns are used. Conchita has been married to a man for four years, while Tom lives like a single man.
