Katy Perry is one of the hottest divas in the industry. She is actually quite a multitasker and a rebel in many senses. Her upbringing is actually shocking, considering the attitude she flaunts (there is the rebellion, read it below) and she has had quite a rocking life, as well as her fourth album Prism released in 2013.

Here are the 7 mind-blowing facts about the amazing Katy Perry.

1. The presentation and reality (differences)

Okay, people in showbiz have to adapt to a lot of changes with their realities. Katy has her own secrets and there is nothing wrong with that! Nevertheless, it does no harm to know that there is a human behind the star. To start with, Katy Perry is not her birth name. Her original name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson. When her life took her to showbiz, she had to change the name to avoid confusion with actress Kate Hudson. She is a natural blonde, but she keeps them dyed (much like Elvis Presley). Perry is not a made-up name either. It is the maiden name of her mom.

2. The upbringing and the rebellion

Her parents’ raised Katy in very stringent Pentecostal Christian values, being pastors both of them. Her upbringing was so strict that even watching the smurfs or reading Harry Potter was restricted. She once said, if she would not have been a singer, she would have been a stay-at-home mom. Her singing career actually began at the church where she sang from an age of 9 to 17.

You can easily imagine the teenager going to church on masses, not reading Harry Potter, later turning into Katy Perry who sings ‘I kissed a girl”! Did you actually try to imagine? It is kind of hard to believe. However, destiny fulfilled her rebellion very ironically, as her debut film was as the Smurfette at the Smurfs. There, she even had her natural blonde color.

3. She may actually believe in karma

She and Russel Brand also married in India. Reportedly, Russell proposed to her in India while they were watching fireworks from the back of an elephant!

Besides the well-known marriage and subsequent divorce with actor Russell Brand, she had been in a relationship with Travis McCoy, lead singer of the Gym Class Heroes. Travis also has a cameo role in her video, “I kissed a girl.” Rumors report that the song has Scarlett Johansson as inspiration. Guest roles are kind of Katy’s favorite thing. She appeared as herself in an episode of “The Young and the Restless” in 2008.

5. Her unknown musical career

Katy can not only sing, but she is also a talented guitar player (both acoustic and electric). She grew up strictly hearing Christian gospel music. Her first non-Christian tune was Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette. She also has a course complete in Italian opera, and she took her first steps into the musical career with Christian pop.

She released that album under her real name. The rebel left home in 17s with only one dream- to make her career in music. She is the only other popstar since Michael Jackson to have a single album with 5 hits in the top slot. Her vocal range is in the control too. She reveals Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” as her favorite track to listen while driving.

6. Her cat

Her cat is Kitty Purry. The cat has her own blog. Speaking of cat things, Katy also launched her own perfume label in November of 2011. The perfume is called Purr, and she appears in the ad with a cat costume, complete with the tail. The bottle of the perfume is also in the shape of a cat. There is also a Katy Perry Barbie doll, released in December 2011. Perhaps, it was on her cat’s advice that she rejected an offer of 20 million dollars to be the judge at the 12th season of the American Idol.

7. Tattoos

She has a tattoo for each one of her albums. There is a strawberry tattoo for ‘One of the Boys’. The Teenage Dream got her a peppermint tattoo.
